Who Will Receive Naomi Judd's Estate?

Who Will Receive Naomi Judd's Estate?

Country music legend Naomi Judd, who passed away in April 2022, created a will that notably excludes her daughters Wynonna and Ashley Judd from its beneficiaries.

Will Details

According to court documents, Naomi Judd named her husband of 33 years, Larry Strickland, as executor of her estate. The will grants him “full authority and discretion” over estate matters without requiring court approval or beneficiary permission.

Strickland is entitled to compensation for his executor duties and reimbursement for legal fees and reasonable expenses related to estate administration. Additionally, Judd’s brother-in-law Reginald Strickland and Daniel Kris Wiatr, president of Wiatr & Associates, serve as co-executors.

Timing and Background

Naomi Judd prepared the will on November 20, 2017. She died by suicide on April 30, 2022 – one day before she and Wynonna were scheduled to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The daughters later appeared together to accept the honor in their mother’s memory.

Family Reaction

Reports indicate that Wynonna has expressed dissatisfaction with the will’s terms. She believes she was instrumental in her mother’s career success. In interviews following Naomi’s death, Ashley discussed her mother’s mental health struggles and the severity of her condition.

The Judds were known for chart-topping country songs and their successful recording partnership throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
